The joy of getting your nails done is something else, especially if it’s a viral trend. The current soft glam manicure trend that’s calling your name is blush nails, and it’s perfect if you’re a fan of glazed donut nails and Y2K style. Blush nails are a trend that started in Korea, but I only recently became aware of them while browsing Instagram for nail inspiration.

What are blush nails?

Blush nails are a Korean manicure trend that imitates the blush makeup look by having a pink glowing ‘aura’ effect in the middle of the nail. The style harmonises beautifully with the recent trends in minimalist, soft, and “clean girl” aesthetics.
Moreover, blush nails are simple to personalise and dress up or down. You can add some pearls or crystals to spice up the look with a little shine. It’s very Y2K and a lot of fun to play around with colours.

If blush nails seem familiar, it’s probably because they are similar to Dua Lipa’s aura manicure and ombré manicure, both of which were introduced earlier this year. Blush nails and aura or ombré nails are essentially the same thing. They are typically created by creating an ombré from the centre of the nail with an airbrush, but there are other ways to get the same result.

Blush nails came up as a result of Korean nail professionals using makeup during manicures. To achieve that ‘healthier’ glow-from-within look, nail technicians started adding powder blush onto the centre of the nail using a brush or eye shadow applicator—hence the name ‘blush nails.

Blush nails are much simpler to do than they appear. If you don’t have a UV lamp at home, you can still do it with regular polishes. Simply apply a base of neutral nail polish that complements your skin tone, then blend in a vibrant pink blush using a small eye shadow brush. If the colour is to your liking, lightly tap it in the middle, top-coat it, and you’re done! Of course, you can also add pearls, charms, or rhinestones on top if you like. Feel free to try out various colour combinations without hesitation.
